Isaiah 47

V1 The virgin daughter of Babylon, prized and on the throne, will be dethroned and stripped.

V4 The only safety is in the presence of the Lord.

V6 The Babylonians sat in proud arrogance where they were celebrated by all. Now they will sit surrounded in silence as they witness the destruction of all they loved.

V8 The Babylonians manage to blaspheme the one true God.

V9 This is a promise that the people will not be granted a future, their evil will cease with them.

V10 Amazing that mankind can feel secure while being wicked.

V11 The wicked will not have security for long.

V12 This is God mocking the Babylonians for their false belief in self.

V13-14 They will work hard on their own salvation but their counselors will burn up like stubble.

Whereas we have spent a lot of time speaking of the faulty belief in idols, this chapter speaks of the false belief in self and the ability of humans and our knowledge. We often strive ourselves to create our own salvation, but this will only be experienced through the cross of Christ.

You and your are used 46 times in this chapter. How does this chapter represent much more than Babylon?

Do you see a growth in occultism or personal religion? How is it impacting the church?
