Kindness, Redemption, Peace

Additional reading on kindness: Exodus 15:13; Deuteronomy 7:8-9; Psalm 103:4; 106:7, 10;  136:10-15.

We see hesed revealed in different ways throughout Scripture. It is represented as:

  • Kindness

  • Covenantal

  • Loyal

  • Mercy

  • Grace

  • Compassion

  • Love

  • Faithful

Connected with the flower of hesed is the stem of redemption. Those needing redeemed are the:

  • Broken

  • Slave

  • Lost

  • Evil

When redemption and loving-kindness intersect, it produces a type of shalom, that is peace from the Lord. We are able to see peace through the clever reversals produced by the author of Ruth. For example, look at:

  • Living/Dead/Life again at marriage (1:8, 2:20, 4:15)

  • Where rest is found (1:9, 3:1, 4:15)

  • Full/Empty (1:21, 3:17, 4:15)

  • Pleasant/Bitter (1:20, 4:16)
