Isaiah 65

  • Vv. 1-7 We see that God is opening his gracious arms to the whole of creation, to people who are not of the historic Israelite lineage, to the Gentile. In his grace, we also see the persistent love of God to the Jews, opening his arms to a people that participate in the lowest of pagan practices.

  • Vv. 8-16 Along with the Gentiles who are now being saved, God also is preserving a remnant from among the Jews who will receive a rich inheritance. Those who were once a chosen people will be seen as cursed, and their promises will be given over to the true servants of the Lord.

  • Vv. 17-25 God promises to bring about a new heaven and a new earth. The presence of death shows that much of what is described in this section is to be fulfilled by the church! The serpent of Genesis has been subdued and we are now under the Lord’s grace that we may serve the Lord.
