52:1-2 God calls for Israel to awaken, repeating the theme of the last chapter. God calls Israel to rise up and adorn itself with beautiful garments from the Lord. They are to shake off the dust and loosen their binds. No longer will they be violated by their enemies. This is a reversal of Isaiah 47:1-2.

52:3-6 The Lord’s name is despised because of the failure and destruction of Israel. Therefore, for his own glory, he will redeem Israel.

52:7-10 The destruction of the people of the Lord and their despair is seen turned into the roaming and singing of a joyful and redeemed people.

52:11-12 We see a group called out of their captivity, and their Lord will protect them as the leave the land of their persecutors.
